Inside African Art
is a project run by three people, Todd Schaffer and his wife Liz, as well as
Liz's sister Sarah. All of us travel to and from Kenya to the US, shuttling
paintings and trying to stay afloat. We have one thing in mind: The
promotion and exposure of contemporary original fine arts by African
artists. (cont...) |

know, not much time passes before Inside African Art finds itself involved

Worldwide economic upheaval: Everyone is
suffering!
Artists are
desperate
Inside African Art understands that times are tough for all and disposable
income is a rare commodity. It is for this reason that we are discounting
the paintings on this website to strengthen our position as offering the
best selection and the best prices for original African paintings on the
internet. And remember: NO FIXED PRICES!

Contemporary African paintings
are less well known than African artifacts and traditional crafts, and
there is little exposure and availability of this type of artwork either
in galleries or on the internet. Yes, there are plenty of mass-produced
artworks, African crafts, and Afri-kitch available, but finding an original
African painting at a reasonable price is next to impossible - and it shouldn't be!

Partially completed tattoo |
Ndeveni Artwork Becomes
Permanent Body Feature! |

Tattooed Ndeveni signature |
|
Inside African Art was
approached with an intriguing project: Find
artist Ndeveni and have him make some
sketches of a large elephant at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. If it works,
the artwork would be used as a tattoo. Ndeveni nailed it on the first try,
and just a few months later, our friend in Denmark is in the process of
being tattooed.
There is still another session
or two before the tattoo is finished - but my goodness - it's fantastic! The
tattoo artist is also very talented! The Tattoo
is finished! See
it! |

... There is an
abundance of incredibly talented artists in Africa who need a forum to promote
their paintings and to show the world what they have to offer. Presently we are
showcasing the artists of East Africa - primarily those of Kenya.
The majority of the paintings displayed
in the website have been purchased either directly from the artists
themselves with whom we have formed personal relationships, or through
various galleries in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya - and are now in
the U.S.A. for quick delivery. |
|
It's our goal to keep the website fluid, topical, and on the pulse of the
contemporary original African paintings scene. As well, I want to ensure that
the artists themselves are reaping the
benefits of world-wide exposure and promotion. We have instant
access to nearly all of the artists in Kenya allowing us to keep refreshing the website with
new paintings! |
|
You buy paintings and the artists benefit - that's the idea of
the website! |
|

First of all, Happy Gnu Year! 2010 ended in
a wonderful way, with three record-setting months for this website - many
thanks to those who not only purchased paintings, but contributed to the
Karichen Primary School Project. Secondly, have you seen the Ndeveni
tattoo (above), it's finished - it's wild!
See it here.
To come: Large Bulinyas on canvas - this month! |

To end the year with a Bang!
One of the original artists on this
website,
Robert Aswani, was recently featured in the August - October 2010
Msafiri, the Kenya Airways (KQ) in-flight magazine!
Since then, we have been getting
inquiries for Aswani's 'Wash Day' Paintings.
As a special request, Robert Aswani has
painted a few of his internationally famous 'Wash Day' paintings
exclusively for Inside African Art.
We have already fulfilled a few 'private
orders', and we wanted to make these available.
Happy Holidays to all - and
Nakutakia Mwaka Mpia (Happy New Year!) |
