N. Mildred

These lovely paintings are the creative endeavor of Mildred, the eldest daughter of one of our most popular artists, Martin Bulinya. I was told that because she was immersed in her father's love of art and creative talents as she was growing up, she had no choice but to develop skills of her own.

These paintings are a mix of media, combining colorful magazine clippings that she has collected with simple character forms to create a lively vignette of the Maasai in different poses.

Some with spears, some with baskets - each one unique. The backgrounds provide a colorful means of perspective and add a serene quality to the characters, making the paintings simple, yet entertaining to look at!

Millie is Martin Bulinya's first born. She was born in Uasin Gishu and raised in Eldoret and Nairobi. She went to school at Torochmoi and St. Eunice secondary school in Nairobi. She started painting in the year 2000 under the guidance of her father Mr. Bulinya. She has been teaching art and crafts to orphans and the disadvantaged children in Kawangware slums in a project sponsored by European Union, AMREF, and the Italian NGO Terra Nouva.
