Zacharia
Mbutha Zacharia Mbutha started his formal education late because of his father's antagonistic view of of the colonial schooling system. He trained and worked as a teacher for many years, but in 1979 he resigned his post as Headmaster of a Nakuru, Kenya, school and became a fulltime artist. Mbutha is known as a social commentator, whose works reflect the issues of traditional African life versus the modern one. Of late, Mbutha has been painting of wider issues of love, conservation, hunger, and poverty. He is an artist of rare dedication and is by far his own strongest critic, working and reworking his paintings until he is satisfied. Mbutha's paintings have extraordinary life and capture both the reality of his chosen subjects, and the freshness of a creative spirit at work. His style of applying paint in small dabs creates a rich tapestry of color. Zacharia Mbutha is a well known artist internationally. His paintings are currently being exhibited in Germany by a gallery owner who also works with Unik Gallery. Most of his paintings are large and draw a lot of
money - it's rare to find one this size. Nonetheless, the richness of his bold
strokes and use of color is just as prevalent in this smaller
painting. Artist: Zacharia
